AnyNowhere — daily chat log — back (to logs index)
01:52, Kristos> The semester is wrapping up. Heading back to work soon. So I may disappear for a few months.
01:55, Kristos> Not to mention I'm 22. I could fall in love and never be heard from again. ;)
02:25, Cryoburner whispers: Or you might be walking alone in the woods, and fall down an abandoned well.
02:54, Speeder> I am 22 too, but probably I will not disappear for falling in love (mostly, because even if I fall in love, no lady would fall in love with me :( )
03:09, Jam shudders.
03:10, Jam yells: NOT 22! OH, IT'S SO HARD! I JUST CAN'T GET PAST IT! I'VE TRIED AND TRIED!
03:10, Jam whispers: Level 22, that is...
03:21, Jam> I'm not 22, and I've already fallen in love (with L.in.oleum)
03:26, Speeder> Why you cannot beat Level 22??? What is that hard to do on that level?
03:28, Jam> I have no idea.
03:31, Jam> The closest I got was almost half of it.
03:33, Jam> I had used the last power (the one with the colored dots) for most of that try.
03:35, Kristos> Cryo, I was thinking that very same thing actually!
03:40, Speeder> Yep... I think that I need to make that power cheaper (I myself frequently run out of power even hitting it in the 3 frames before impact)
03:43, Jam admires Speeder's lightning-fast reflexes. Three frames!? That's amazing!
03:46, Speeder> Sometimes I miss and waste 3 frames of power (and it is stil a lot O.o), but it is just a question of forward calculation (instead of reflexes) :)
03:47, Speeder> My reflexes actually are bad (ie: I am a excellent FPS player, unless something startle me, then I aim good as a blind paraplegic)
03:50, Jam> Maybe that's why. I'm a horrible FPS player. No reflexes at all...
03:52, Jam> I suspect I just need to try harder. Practice some of the other levels a bit more...
03:55, Speeder> The level 22 unites concepts of level 21 and level 9 (if that helps :P)
03:56, Speeder> I am sleepy, yet not tired... Maybe effects of late coffee... Better to sleep :P (I am trying to reshift back my sleep pattern...)
03:57, Jam> Ok. I'll keep trying. Bye.
03:57, Speeder> I've been sleeping at REALLY late hours (like, 6:00 in the morning :P) My mom is upset with that.
03:57, Speeder> Bye :)
03:58, Speeder> I show up again tomorrow (specially because I can't miss paranoia! I get unhappy when I miss a turn...)
03:58, Kristos> Bye!
03:58, Speeder> Kristos you should play Paranoia too!
03:58, Jam> Thanks for the advice.
03:59, Kristos> I might look into it.
03:59, Kristos> ;)
04:00, Jam> Kristos-R!
04:00, Kristos> When I scanned it before though, I never really understood what was going on...
04:02, Jam> What parts?
04:05, Kristos> For example... What is the game of Paranoia? :P
04:06, Kristos> Apparently some sort of story thing that is not completey freeform - players do not make up the story, but rather their part, what their character does.
04:07, Kristos> With rooms.
04:07, Jam> And corridors!
04:08, Jam> Did you see the Wikipedia article on Paranoia?
04:08, Kristos> Nope! I'll head that way now...
04:09, Jam> Mary Lou, what is the Paranoia RPG?
04:09, Mary Lou> Paranoia is a dystopian science-fiction tabletop role-playing game originally designed and written by Greg Costikyan, Dan Gelber, and Eric Goldberg, and first published in 1984 by West End Games.
04:09, Mary Lou> I don't mind your opinion anyway.
04:12, Jam> Gligar's introduction helps too. http://anynowhere.com/thread/4430
04:24, Kristos> That's too much for me to keep up with.
04:24, Kristos> Looks like fun though...
04:26, Jam> You don't really need to remember most of it. We usually just walk around and shoot things.
04:26, Jam> Well, I need to leave too. Bye.
04:27, Kristos> Yeah, but the rules say if you miss so many turns, you're out...
04:28, Kristos> Alright, ttyl then!
06:25, 4616599> Feel free to join Paranoia anytime! It's freeform, meaning that you can miss turns(not that I'm encouraging it!). Selbio's Selbio-R, for instance, has been idling around batting air with a towel for a couple dozen turns. E_net4 hasn't posted since the first turns.
06:26, 4616599> Besides, you'll start in the meeting hall, so you aren't supposed to know anything in-game either ;)
08:23, Cryoburner whispers: Of course, you might come back to find your character dead if you miss lots of turns while in a potentially unsafe place. :)
08:24, Cryoburner whispers: By the way, it's probably pretty dark in the bunker now. :P
09:45, E_net4> Muhuhahaha.
15:07, Kristos> Cool.
15:07, Kristos> I'm doing homework instead of working on Lino 2 Libraries... what's wrong with me?!
15:42, E_net4> Wat. Where be the summer holidays?
15:46, Kristos> I'm working during the Fall and Spring semesters, and doing school in the Summer this year. It's a pretty cool program that gives me some work experience, some money, and a shiny resume for when I graduate. :)
16:00, Jam jumps up and down in excitement. "Yay! New Paranoia player!"
16:30, Jam> And E_net-R has woken up!
16:33, E_net4 whispers: Who? :P
16:35, Jam types things into Frespych so the surprise isn't spoiled.
16:37, Jam> I hope Alex isn't ending his blog...
16:37, Jam> I liked it, I've never seen that style of writing before.
16:39, Jam> But if he wants to end it, he can end it. It's his choice. No one is stopping him.
16:42, Jam> Most blogs I've seen, the author is talking to an audience. In Alex's blog, it almost seems like he's thinking to himself, and typing out his thoughts.
16:52, Jam goes off to think about his next Paranoia post, and try to finish Level 22.
16:53, Jam> And write a Lino program to read the dates in the posts backup.
16:55, Jam is done spamming Frespych. Hopefully I'll never do it again.
17:01, E_net4> Building a sentry!
17:01, E_net4 builds a sentry.
19:20, Mary Lou> "Kristos" reached major age!
19:32, Jam yells: CONGRATULATIONS!
19:45, Kristos> Senior Citizen! Free coffee and icecream!
19:45, Kristos whispers: Of course, the icecream was already free. *wink
19:53, Speeder> Hum... I think that version 2 will be up in this sunday :) If nothing wrong happen (besides the already existing issue with random crashes when you skip levels and press retry several times in a row...)
19:55, Jam> I thought of something else: Did you mean for all the powers to be able to be used from the beginning?
19:55, Speeder> Yes, I don't teach on the beginning, but if you know, you can use them (mostly, to allow higher scoring after you completed some runs...)
19:57, Jam> Ok. I think I found out why I'm having difficulty with Level 22...
19:59, Jam> I use the yellow power a lot in that level, and it drains a lot of power.
20:01, Jam> The path of the ball can be a bit unpredictable, and it's hard not to use it.
20:07, Speeder> Use it only in emergencies :P The paddle follow the mouse perfectly, you can use it for some frames only to position the paddle, then you release it again.
20:11, Jam> That's a much better strategy. Thanks.
20:12, Jam> I wish there was a pause button...
20:15, Jam> And maybe you could add a delay between clicking the "use powers" button and resuming the game.
20:18, Speeder> There are a pause button (pause on the keyboard)
20:18, Speeder> But I never use it myself, I dunno if it is still working properly.
20:19, Jam> Oh! I didn't see it there.
20:26, Jam> ...I think the delay would be useful because it's disorienting to have the paddle suddenly skip to the center when it was at a different place before.
20:36, Speeder> Hummm... I might see how to fix that (actually, this was another thing that was worse... before as you clicked the button, it would also create a ball)
20:41, Jam whispers: I'm glad that's fixed, I can barely handle one ball.
